SUMMARY:Dempsey Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The Dempsey Challenge is an annual run/walk/ride experience to benefit the Dempsey Center. With two physical Centers in Lewiston and South Portland\, Maine\, and our third\, virtual Center—Dempsey Connects\, which launched in 2020—our specially-trained team of experts provides curated\, holistic care to people impacted by cancer in Maine and beyond. Founded by actor Patrick Dempsey in 2009\, this flagship fundraising event has raised over $18 million for the Dempsey Center since its inception\, with 100% of all funds raised going directly to client care. \nWe’ve taken the Dempsey Challenge of the past and combined it into one day of inspiration\, participation and celebration as we rally together to make life better for people impacted by cancer. On Saturday\, September 21st\, you’ll choose to participate in a 5K run/walk\, a cycling event featuring new distances (family-friendly 5 miler\, 15-\, 25-\, 35-\, 50- or 65-mile metric century) or our newest Challenge\, a 25-mile event –our take on a duathlon– that will challenge you to run 4.5 miles AND ride 21.5 miles to the finish line at the Festival in the Park! \nIn the afternoon\, we’ll come together to honor cancer survivors with the 16th Annual Survivor Walk\, recognize the 2024 Amanda Dempsey Award winner and close out the day as we celebrate the top fundraisers at the Fundraising Award ceremony.

SUMMARY:Tough Mountain Challenge
DESCRIPTION:CAN YOU HANDLE IT? Tough Mountain Challenge has been New England’s most popular and fun adventure obstacle race since 2010. Set in the mountains of Maine\, Tough Mountain delivers mud\, sweat\, and beer to 3\,600 competitors every year. Are you tough enough to complete the challenge? 3+ miles. 20+ obstacles. 37 heats. 3000+ competitors. \nAt approximately 5k in length\, it may look like an easy hike\, but you’ll change your mind as soon as you take off running up a mountain under an arsenal of snowguns or scrambling through the mud. Tough Mountain Challenge is a timed event\, but it’s not about whether you finish first or last—it’s about testing yourself and pushing your limits\, then celebrating your accomplishment once you cross the finish line. Tough Mountain Challenge limits the number of competitors in the event and in each heat\, so you won’t feel crowded or rushed on the course. It might be the most fun you’ll ever have while also considering crying. \nThe Mini Mountain Challenge falls the day after the Tough Mountain Challenge and attracts hundreds of kids looking for some muddy fun. We’re looking forward to our next event on July 28\, 2024. \nMini Mountain is similar to Tough Mountain but designed for kids ages 4 through 12. It offers uphill and downhill running combined with dirt\, mud\, fun obstacles\, snowguns\, and more\, with bigger challenges and longest distances for older kids. \nThe Mini Mountain Challenge is organized into three heats: 10 AM for ages 10-12\, 10:30 AM for ages 7-9\, and and 11 AM for ages 4-6. Course length and obstacles will vary for each age group to create experiences and levels of challenge to fit everyone based on ten years of making kids muddy. Everyone registered by May 31 is guaranteed a t-shirt in their requested size. \nTo stay up to date on all things Maine Sports\, visit www.mainesportscommission.com

SUMMARY:Sugarloaf Marathon and 15k
DESCRIPTION:The Sugarloaf Marathon is an official qualifier for the Boston Marathon. We are certified by the United States Track and Field Association (USATF) as an official sanctioned event. Over the years the Sugarloaf Marathon has become extremely popular among running enthusiasts from around the world. With a strict limit of 2\,000 participants\, this race will sell out. In 2018\, 30.1% of finishers qualified for the Boston Marathon making Sugarloaf the fastest course in Maine and one of the top in the nation. \nLocated in the mountains of Western Maine\, the Sugarloaf Marathon follows scenic route 27 as it winds through the Bigelow Mountain range and follows the Carrabassett River. The course starts in the town of Eustis\, travels through Carrabassett Valley and finishes in the town of Kingfield. The first 5 miles of the race are relatively flat\, miles 5-10 consist of rolling hills with a steady two-mile climb at mile 8. The last 16 miles has a gradual decent with an elevation loss of 980 feet. Marathon runners continue to record personal-best times while racing Sugarloaf.
