farmers' markets and stands

Finding farm fresh food to bring to your table is one of the easiest things to do in Maine’s Lakes & Mountains because the region is also home to many family farms, making farmers’ markets and farm stands ideal venues for showcasing our magnificent agricultural bounty and building community, one basket full of goodies at a time.

One notable market is the Bethel Farmers’ Market, held weekly in the quaint mountain village. Visitors can peruse a colorful array of locally grown produce, artisanal crafts, and handmade goods. Not to be outdone, Norway’s Alan Day Community Market is a treasure trove of fresh vegetables, fruits, and homemade treats—one favorite is the wood-fired pizza. We suggest heading out to the Harrison farmers market if you can. They’ve got a terrific group of vendors that bring the best of Maine’s produce: goat cheese, raw milk, maple syrup, eggs, highland beef, botanicals, and more!

Farm Stores and Farm Stands here run the gamut from the many roadside honor system stands to seasonal Maine maple makers or summer PYO berries and fall apples. Check in with some goats or alpacas at a fiber farm. Or spend an hour touring a family farm with an onsite store like Nezinscot’s in Turner. Also, please keep your eyes open for the traditional Farm Stands, which often sell their own produce and other locally grown fruits, veggies, and other farm products from around the region and the world.

A visit to our farmer’s markets also allows for the support of local farmers while creating a lively atmosphere where neighbors and visitors alike can connect, fostering a sense of community and promoting sustainable, locally sourced living.
